It is too damned hot in Singapore to wear red socks on Friday! Hence, the
"Scarlet Sandals" as an alternative to red socks! Why red socks? My daughter, Katherine, has taken up the Unogwaja Challenge 2013 and will ride from Cape Town to Durban - no, not in a car, but on her bicycle! Then on the 11th day, she will take part in the Comrades Marathan, a xxx mile run.
Crazy you say? Well, in the past couple of years, I have learned (finally) that a person can do much more than one thinks. I did my first triathlon at the age of 61 - not a sprint but a 70.3 mile race. It was slow, but it was also something I never thought I could do - or even want to do.
The Unogwaja Challenge is in the spirit of taking one step toward something you could never dream of..... So I am very happy to be part of this initiative to inspire people to do the impossible.
"I wear Red Socks on Fridays" began in South Africa to remind us all that we are part of the global community of people trying to make a difference. Wear red socks on Fridays? "Can not"....as they say here in Singapore. It is too hot. But I can wear my new red sandals to remind me and others that I am connected to other people doing similar things.
